SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

Notice God in the complexity, the frustration, and the joy of everyday life.

As a trained spiritual director, I offer a gentle presence, a listening ear, and act as a guide that will help you notice, discern, and respond to God’s invitation to grow, to change, to trust, or to gain freedom.

When we discern accurately what the Spirit is saying and are willing to believe and follow, new prospects open for healing, love, growth, and service.  The Holy Spirit enables us to love God, our neighbors, and ourselves. Spiritual direction provides an open space for us to speak about our hopes, dreams, and fears, and respects the way we perceive the realities of God with us.

Is spiritual direction right for me?

Are you…

  • Feeling restless or challenged

  • In transition

  • Dealing with losses

  • Looking for someone to share your journey who knows the new way you are feeling drawn

  • Feeling guilty about not living up to someone’s expectations–your own, a person you care about, or even God’s

  • Wondering if this is all there is in a satisfactory life

  • Having spiritual experiences that are different from what you have known before

  • Opening to God’s love, to receive and respond more fully

  • Exploring general or particular questions about discernment

  • Responding to information about spiritual direction

  • Yearning for God

  • Desiring to deepen your ability to listen to the Holy Spirit and follow that leading

How does spiritual direction compare to other helping roles?

Unlike other helping relationships such as counseling, coaching, mentoring/ discipling, the focus in spiritual direction is God’s presence and activity in your life, with a desired outcome of noticing and responding to God’s direction.   As a spiritual director I am simply someone on the journey who notices God’s presence and prays and listens with you.

What to expect?

Spiritual direction involves a regular one-on-one meeting, either in person or via video conferencing, between you and I, where we both come together to listen for the Holy Spirit’s leading in your life.  A session may include time to focus or center the mind, heart, and attention on God, and is often followed by silence, reflective reading of scripture, stories from your life, posing questions to God, and prayerful listening for God’s response.

The reasons people seek spiritual direction are about as unique as each individual. I encourage you to contact me if you are interested or want to learn more!
